Position: Onboarding Officer

Location: Nottingham/Derby

Salary Banding: £20,000-£22,000

NWR are working on behalf of an award-winning employment and training provider that has been supporting people into employment and training since 2000. They have helped to improve the lives of over 30,000 individuals and they have supported over 6,000 businesses to recruit and upskill employees to reach their potential.

With success comes growth, and as such they are looking to hire an Onboarding Officer who will be responsible for supporting clients in their career journey as well as supporting them to access suitable learning and training opportunities.

As an onboarding officer, you'll explain the options available to the people that you encounter, to help them make informed choices about their future. You'll offer information, advice, and guidance (IAG) on education, training and work opportunities and you will be responsible for enrolling them onto their learning programmes.

We are looking for an excellent communicator, who is confident working with clients from a range of backgrounds and has the confidence to hold group selection activities and run enrolments. This person will have the ability to build and maintain robust networks and referral streams, strive to give the best IAG service to customers and be comfortable working to targets and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

The Onboarding Officer may work with individuals or groups in a variety of settings.

Tasks generally involve:

  • Providing clients with advice in person, via email or the telephone
  • Managing a caseload, which is often comprised of a varied client group
  • Conducting group selection activities along with short drop-in interviews, an extended interview, or a series of face-to-face interviews
  • Designing and delivering group sessions aimed at building employability skills
  • Building up and maintaining knowledge of information resources on education, training and work in order to signpost clients to the information they need
  • Collecting, updating, and producing information on local opportunities or in a particular employment sector
  • Referring clients to other agencies, such as government agencies, learning and training providers or specialist organisations, and advocating on their behalf where necessary
  • Liaising closely with welfare, finance, and careers services
  • Undertaking outreach work, such as visiting community groups to talk about learning opportunities
  • Planning, coordinating, and attending events and jobs fairs to market opportunities to prospective students
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts with other providers of IAG, joining relevant professional associations where appropriate
  • Undertaking administrative tasks, such as setting up and maintaining client records

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications required:

We are quite open on this. if you have experience working across the Further Education, or Welfare to work sectors, then this would be great. However, we are also looking to inspire people into this market with the transferrable skills. So if you come from backgrounds where you've experienced customer service, administrative duties, careers support, perhaps even HR or recruitment, then we'd like to hear from you.
The further education market is experiencing significant funding and growth, which is making it an attractive market for new careers. This market will offer stability as it is set for the next 5-10 years; long term careers in supporting people develop their own skills and careers, and quite often fast tracked progression as you climb through the ranks.
